I can say that a year ago, I was the most stressed out person you know. There were many reasons for this including multitasking, working on group projects, and having no one else do the work except me, which was the case in college. Most of the time I just ended up crying, this sucks! Right?
I’ll tell you how I overcame it!
Your mind is literally a magnet, I know it sounds cliché but it’s actually true! Even in the hardest times, there’s always a bit of light. There always is. Just count your blessings, if you can’t, be simple about it, eg: if your job sucks, that’s okay! At least you have a job. Simply put, be thankful. If you believe you’re blessed, you are; if you don’t, then you’re not.
The author of Positive Attitude is Everything says that we all start out with a nice clean mental window of our lives which gets dirty and tarnished by the dirt we hear which in our case is due to external circumstances so we cannot see the world clearly through a dirty window but we can clean this window by developing or improving our attitude so that it will enable us to see the world in a better way hope is literally magic the word is magic one of my all time favorite quote: as long as there is life there is hope this is true no matter what your circumstances are be hopeful for a better tomorrow and think positive.
Let me tell you how I create my morning routine which has helped me to overcome stress and it will help you too.
- Exercise,
- read an inspiring book,
- Jot down three good things you’re thankful to God for.
- Mediate
Tips on How to Overcome Stress
Life has its highs and lows, and they’re unavoidable. Here are a few ways to handle frustration and stress.. I am writing them down:
Know the reason behind the stress. Is it from an external source or cosmic source? If it is an external source then there is no use in making a big fuss over it because it is not in your control. You cannot do anything to control what is happening outside you. So avoid it. If sleeping too much increases stress, then you should definitely not try to control something that you cannot control and leave it as it is. Take it one day or two. Eventually the external troubles will subside or you will adapt to the situation. Nothing is permanent in life, even the extreme downfalls in life! You can call your friend and share things with him/her to relieve stress!
You and someone else can go for a run or track or some other physical activity every morning and evening!
Exercise releases feel good hormones like oxygen which will help you reduce stress and relax!
If possible, stay away from stress producing situations and places which have a negative impact on your mind!
I sometimes join dance coaching so you can find and choose your own thing which will reduce your stress and make you happy! You can do any activity which you like and you like like painting, playing etc., your stress will automatically reduce and you will get away from negativity!
Just believe that the next day is going to be better than today, tomorrow is going to be better, so don’t think too much and get busy in one day at a time!
Praying also helps many people, meditation works for a long time, a person who controls his senses can deal with the negative points in his life very easily!
Appreciate what you have and stop stressing over what you don’t.
Life is about finding balance between what you have and what you don’t! For example some people may not have very supportive families but they have the best friends in the world. It’s a balance in life!
Zoom out of your life a little bit and take a third person view and look at your life from a distance. You will automatically realize that your problems are very few and small compared to the realities of the world!
Looking at your life from a distance helps us to be grateful for our life and ignore the small difficulties and failures in our life!
Try to avoid eating junk food when you are stressed because stress eating is never a solution. Instead, it increases our stress and due to which we get into the habit of sadness and overeating/undereating. Instead, we should eat healthy food when we are stressed!
We should also have a little discipline in life which works in the long run. Good habits, good exercise routine, good social life and living your purpose every day helps us manage our stress. Most importantly a disciplined person knows what causes their stress and is prepared to handle it.
Have faith that this phase will also end and good times will come!
